Honed Honda Civic Sedan Shakedown
Honed Developments recently attended a local track day, a sprint event at Sandown Raceway hosted by Melbourne’s Alfa romeo Club. Grant, along with Tom’s help, took the sedan for a spin and put it to the test.
For those unfamiliar with the car, it is a 1994 Honda Civic Sedan fitted with the B18C engine and Y80 gearbox from a DC2 Integra Type R. The stance and livery on the car is inspired by the cars of the Japanese Touring Car Championship (JTCC), specifically the EG9s that competed in 1993-94.
We chose to do this event at the start of September because we are aiming to have the car at the Honda Nationals at Winton Raceway at the end of the month. As the car hadn’t been out of second gear or even hard on the brakes yet, we were eager to see how it would perform on the track and identify any teething issues.
On the day, five laps were completed over three sessions. The first session was cut short due to the throttle cable becoming disconnected from the throttle cable support bracket in the engine bay. The second session was ended after two laps by a red flag due to a competitor going off in an unsafe area of the track.
It then started raining between sessions two and three. We did go out for session three, but only one lap was completed in the wet due to the front windscreen fogging over, and since the car’s HVAC systems have been removed, there was no defogger available.
