We’ve been a bit busy at Honed, so this is a very belated update from back in July when we headed up to H Nationals at Winton. The event was well subscribed, and there was a healthy contingent of the regular Honda track goers from our group heading up. We took the CR-X up to run some laps, despite the winner of Class 3 being a nearly foregone conclusion, with the unstoppable PB machine Peter Nguyen in his S2000 in the same class.
The weather started off wet and cold, and it took some time for the track to dry off and start warming up. This caught out plenty of folks, with more than a few ending up in the mud. Luckily the CR-X was running in Group D which was filled with more experienced track drivers with people mostly driving within their limits, and just a few instances of cars with what seemed like no rear view mirrors.
It took some time to get comfortable in the car on the lower grip morning surface, and times hovered around the 38-40s for the first half of the day. After settling in toward the end of the day I ended on a 1:37.57 on the last lap of the day, a little way off the best time I ran at the EXE event earlier in the year.
We’ll be back again soon to chase after that elusive 1:35s lap time, without much in the way of further changes. Some alignment tweaks and a lot more seat time is all it will take.

The sole non-Honda at the event was Ying in the KP82 K24 powered Starlet. Ying managed a best time of a 1:38.91 in the last session of the day, after a fairly spectacular off into a very swampy area of the infield:
Proof that Honda power can improve anything! This was the first time out in the car with full power and RPM available, and the car performed flawlessly all day and by all reports Ying couldn’t be more pleased to be the “Fastest K24 powered Starlet driven by a pink haired person at H Nationals”. Another good friend of Honed, Rhys was there in his Civic, pushing hard for the win in Class 2. His best time at the end of the day of 1:42.4 put him less than 2 tenths back from the class winner, a great result for a very simple but well put together package.
Honed also supported the event, by sponsoring the Fastest Newcomer category. Congratulations to Daniel Tran in his S2000 for taking the win in the class with a best lap of 1:48.9. We’re well underway developing an air guide application for S2000 as Daniel’s class prize, and these will be available in our online shop soon.
Thanks to Andrew Mell for the photos above, and for coming a long way to stand in the cold and wet so we can enjoy all the great pics.
Here’s a few more photos from the event, thanks to Folk’s Photography, be sure to take a look at the full gallery on their Facebook page.
